Hi,
I'd been using the Buffalo NAS Linkstation LS-CHL 500GB for past 10 Months with out any issues.
Last week I moved it to a new router (Apple Airport Extreme) and after booting it gave some error message (I don't remember exact message) on the web admin console. I ran the disk check and the message went away.
Then onwards, every time the NAS boots/wakes up, the status indicator turns Amber just for the very first second or less of the boot process and turns blue, keeps blinking blue very fast and then almost 15 - 20 seconds in to the boot process, suddenly turns Amber (Continuous - no long or short blinks as in Info codes) with the function button also lit bright blue - lasts for 5 to 6 seconds - then again turns back to blue and boots up as normal.
I DON't have any issues accessing the NAs from both PC or Mac, visible in NASNavigator and accessible through the web console also.
I force updated the firmware (1.07), did reinitialize the disk, formatted (in all different combinations and order).
When I checked with Buffalo tech support, what they told me is it could be indicating that the NAS is acquiring an IP. So I turned off DHCP, assigned static IP, restarted with the network cable disconnected (no USB also). Still it behaved the same.
Only thing I noticed (Not sure if it was the same even from the beginning) - the fan is loud all the way till the Amber light goes away (second time). Once the Amber turns blue, suddenly the fan becomes very quiet and its still spinning.
The network properties shows a speed status of 1000Mbps on the ethernet line. (I see obvious performance improvements on the new router)
Tech support says since it functions as expected, nothing to be worried about. I know Amber light is for Info/Warnings but would like to know if there is anything to be worried about. Please share your inputs.
Thanks
Praveen

neither need a s/n
But how does this relate to the problem I posted? Could you please give some more details as to whether it fixes such an issue or if its the new firmware?
As far as I know, the maximum version available for my model is (LS-CHL 500GB) is 1.07.
I have not seen this behavior before. It doesnt match anything I have in my diagnostic codes. If it is functioning normally I would let it be, but if you really want to troubleshoot it I would pull the data off of the unit and force flash the firmware with the option to "rebuild partition table" (this may violate your local warranty, please check with them first). Let me know as this is the first time I have seen something like this.
