Most likely a problem with the motherboard or HDD controller.  I would contact support or the retailer for a replacement.

This seems to be a common issue.

Hmm, I haven't noticed, what makes you say that?

Because this very F'ing thing has happened to so many poor souls - just review the Forum here and you'll see.  Buffalo should be ashamed of this product.  3 weeks i had this unit before the 7 Red Lights struck me.

oh yeah, and thanks PCPiranah for deleting my previous post (which did not violate Forum rules, by the way)

I wouldnt suggest using that language or bashing our products on this forum.

Tweezer, abusive and foul language is against our forum rules.  I am deleting this post as well.

Also Tweezer when I did a search for "7 red lights" and "7 red blinks", your messages are the only ones that pop up for this unit.  7 red blinks is a completely different diagnostic code for older units (Bad HDD, a little bit more common than MB/HDD controller failure).  I understand that you are frustrated and I apologize for that, but this is not a place to vent, this is a support forum.

Where would be the appropriate place to 'vent' as you put it? Would it not make sense for others to see what they are getting in to before they buy? I'm $1400 in at this point on data recovery, and its still not complete.

hilarious: 1.5 months ago (before i was BANNED from the tech forum board) there were PAGES of 'red light' posts, now there are only two. Buffalo trying to hide something??

"Where would be the appropriate place to 'vent' as you put it?"

A non support board that isn't owned by the company.  If you wish to ask questions in an appropriate manner, then this is the forum for you.

"I'm $1400 in at this point on data recovery, and its still not complete."

I would recommend having a better backup solution.

We have all old deleted posts still on record, but I am not seeing any besides yours in regard to "7 red blinks".  Try looking in the "solved" section as well.

I understand that you have had a bad experience and I am sorry for that but that is no reason to swear on a public support forum.  You blatently swore first and when I removed the post you wrote "Because this very F'ing thing..." in the very next post.  I will reiterate NO SWEARING OF ANY KIND, PERIOD.  This will not be tolerated on the boards as it is against our guidelines and if you continue to do it I will be forced to ban you again.
