I have (2) TeraStations, one I use for storage, the other for backup. Both are TS-HTGL/R5 F/W 1.26
They run on a peer-to-peer Windows XP Pro network. I have no difficulty mapping the shared folders to drives on various computers on the network and working with the files on both.
Having been disatisfied with the external backup software I was using, I gave the firmware backup program that came with the TeraStations a try. After setting up and running a couple simple backups in the "Immediate" mode, the lack of any kind of Restore function in the program quickly ended my trial.
When I attempted to delete the folders and files that the two backups had created (using Windows XP as I always have with my other backup program) I got an error message with the banner: Error Deleting File or Folder and the body: Cannot delete file.txt: Access is denied. Make sure the disk is not full or write-protected and that the file is not currently in use.
The TeraStation's web interface does not appear to provide any means of deleting these files and when I try to change their security setting through XP I get another error with the banner: Security and the body: Unable to save permission changes on file.txt. Access is denied.
Am I dealing with UNIX level security here? How do I change the permissions and/or delete the files?

Format the array to delete the problem files. Make sure you have backups of the data before you do this!
After that, update the firmware on both devices to 1.33, and try the backup again.

Thanks for the suggestion, but I'd prefer a less drastic approach given the amount of data I have in place.
A quick search of the web reveals that I'm not alone. I found this issue noted back to 2007...
