Title: Linkstation Live (HS-DHGL-500) - Firmware update failed
Post by: ptbacroat on December 29, 2009, 03:16:53 PM

Hi,

Firmware update aborted with LSUpdater and since then I only can ping the Linkstation. LSUpdater just comes back with the following Message "HS-DHGL that needs updating wasn't found". NASNavigator is telling me that the Linkstation is in EM Mode. Any ideas.

Thanks in advance

Make sure you don't have the NASNavigator running when you try the firmware update. NASNavi and the firmware updater use the same port for discovery, so they can interfere with each other. You can also try the force firmware update procedure: http://forums.buffalotech.com/t5/Storage/FAQ-2-of-3-Force-Firmware-update-procedure-please-read-this/td-p/11011

Hi Colin137,

Thanks for your quick reply, but the NASNavigator is not running and I still get the same Message when executing the LSUpdater.exe. The force firmware update procedure doesn't work neither because the Update Button is greyed out, as the LSUpdater.exe can't find the Linkstation. Any other ideas.

Regards

Connect the computer directly to the device. A regular ethernet cable will work fine.

Reboot the NAS. Once it's back up, try the updater again.

Hi Colin137,

The Linkstation is connected through a Switch and I can ping the box, wondering what a direct connection will do differently. LSUpdater.exe doesn't find the Linkstation and the Update Button is greyed out.

Thanks in advance

I got my Linkstation Live working again, I did the follwing:

SNIP by Colin137, see next post.

4. Rebooted the Linkstation

5. Downloaded Version 1.06 from http://www.buffalo-technology.com/suppo ... l_1.06.zip

6. activated debug mode and updated the Firware using LSUpdater.exe

The only Issue now is that the Web Interface is in Japanese even though I updated the firmware to version 2.10_us. Anyone an idea how to get the english Web Interface back. I also discovered that I lost my share where I had all my Data.

Any ideas how to fix that??

Thanks

ptbacroat,

I had to edit your post to remove references to firmware modification, in order to protect other users' warranties.

To get it back to english, follow the steps here http://www.buffalotech.com/knowledgebase/users/kb.php?id=10073&category_id=5&sid2=

Once it's in english, you can add a new shared folder with the exact same name as your old data-containing share. This will update the samba config, and relink the samba server to the data directory.

You would rather hide the solution rather than help people help themselves? I would be a happier camper if I could fix my Live Station myself and this guy's problem was as close to mine as I've seen. In my own thread I was just told to return it. I would much rather fix the issue and get my data back off...

I have the same failure as OP, on same model.  Noted during update that reboot timed out after 360 seconds, then on continuing of reboot unit went into error mode and confirmed fan not operating. Update aborted. Left unit sit, performed EM boot and was lucky enough to have unit finally recognized. Reattempted update and had same result-- unit sayed in rebooting mode, didn't leave on long enough for error code but noted unit would not readily shut down. Finally turned off. Thoughts Please. Thanks

NAS Navigator2 finds my Linkstation, but the LSUpdater (run as admin) can't find it. It says "the Linkstation that needs updating wasn't found" Both have the same beginning IP address (only last number is different and the subnet mask match. How can I update?

What unit do you have and what firmware version are you trying to install?
