Title: Extreme slow backup performance TS to MiniStation
Post by: nivlek on December 21, 2009, 01:54:06 PM

Hello,

I am backing up data from a Terstation

HS-DHTGL/R5 1.10

to a MiniStation 250Gb USB(Turbo) drive, attached to the USB Port

I think this backup is going to take about a week. There is something seriously wrong here.

Has anyone successfully resolved this sort of problem ?

I don't beleive that our ministations have supplemental power connection, and that is what you need to hook up a usb drive to our nas device for backups.  There is not a lot of power coming out of the usb port on our devices, the usb hard drives need there own power connection to work properly.  Also the drive needs to be formatted to xfs file system through the device or a linux/ubuntu box.

Hello again,

this is a Turbo Device and there is an extra cable. I have two drives attached to the two ports right now. If I detach one of the drives can I use that free USB port for additional power ?

I bought Buffalo equipment for compatibility and it is a pity they don't compliment each other. I assume this was just to save a few cents.
