Title: Smart TV Wont play MKV files via linkstation
Post by: KooolM2 on December 06, 2020, 04:13:44 PM
Hi all

I have purched the linkstation quad and have installed a 500gb hardrive in it.  I also have a samsung smart tv es8000 (current model) and it plays all file formats ive thrown at it including MKV files via allshare.

HOwever, now that i want to play the same movie files through the linkstation, it either doesnt play it at all saying 'unsupported file type' or it has played 1 mkv file but it doesnt have sound.

Im a bit of a newbie to this all so please help and if possible, explain in laemans terms :)

Thx.

The decoding is done by the player, not the NAS. This just means the TV can't decode that file type. You'll need to use something like handbrake to convert them tp MP4 files.
