Title: error: disk structure is corrupted and unreadable
Post by: mtvlandman on December 12, 2009, 06:26:38 PM

I have an external USB buffalo drive, 500GB. I used it to copy data files from XP os computer due to upgrading to new Windows 7 system. I filled the buffalo drive up - except for 6 GB.  It worked on the new computer to access the files a time or two, but now I get this error and I can not access the Buffalo  USB drive. My Device Manager says the drive is working property and it  will complete a volume read, and now says it has 1GB free space.  Except for the Device Manager, any  attemps to actually  access files leads to this error.  Help...

I had a similar problem with a 1tb usb drive. It seems that Buffalo products are starting to act weird lately. I get this same error on my NAS when I try to add alot of files. If I add one or two its no problem, if I try to add a few gigs I get all kinds of errors. So here was my solution:

Connect it to another computer first, check to see if the other computer can see this drive. I had to do this and then my laptop running windows 7 was able to see it. I know its not a technical answer but its worth a try. You wont get an answer from the mods here for a while.

hmmm..coincidence? we had the same problem. I already connected it to another computer but all the data were **bleep** corrupted. However I searched in google and found a disk utility TEST DISK, you may try it, but chances are 50/50 that you will be able to recover back your data.
