Title: Using an old Linkstation to turn a USB drive into a NAS
Post by: random on December 05, 2009, 07:33:03 PM

Hi,

I recently saw a deal on an old Linkstation HD-H160LAN.

I know this is old technology, but would like to use it to put a large (500-750GB) USB drive on a network.

I haven't bought it yet, are there any issues I should be aware of?

I assume this model of Linkstation comes with an IDE hard drive installed?

Ideally, I would like to be able to view the linkstation hard drive & USB drive as seperate devices on the network, is this possible?

If the Linkstation hard drive was to fail, would the information on the USB drive be safe?

I am happy to reformat the USB drive.

Any advice appreciated.
