Title: HD-CE1.5TU2
Post by: oohansel on December 05, 2009, 08:52:17 AM

= HD-CL1.5TU2(in Japan)

i live in japan and do not speak japanese. i naively thought that buffalo(as other companies do) had a system that would allow multilanguage support of their product.

my question is

for the purposes of saving data  do i need the english firmware or will the unit function without it(will the unit function as any other hardrive just more space) ?

a well meaning indidual offered me this advice, "If Japanese support doesn't have any other ideas, I would recommend returning a device and buying a North American Spec device."

this is not possible, i'm in japan.

Before I can give an answer I would need to know is your PC running XP or Vista in English because if that be the case then this device should function just like a normal external USB.  If not, even if the OS is Japanese you should be able to work with it just like a normal USB device.  Firmware doesn't really play a part in this issue mainly because this isn't a NAS device that needs its firmware updated periodically.  Hope I'm not being too confusing.  Post back if you need clarification.

thanks for getting back to me!

i'm using windows 7, 64bit

i'm not technically inclined at all.

a) what is an NAS device?

b) what benefits does the english software offer? (i've seen talk about a hibernation problem... and i'm concerned)
