Title: TS-RX6.0TL/R5 Local users problem / additional setup questions
Post by: lefthooked on December 01, 2009, 10:47:56 AM

Model:  TS-RX6.0TL/R5

Firmware: 1.10

Domain

Windows XP Pro Users

Setup:  So I purchased this device to use as a NAS.  I created all Folders and have added Domain Users to said folders and gave Read & Write access to each folder.  Mapped the local users to their respected shared folders on the NAS.  Configured Windows backup to point to said mapped drive.

Problem:  I seem to be having an issue when more than one user backs up at the same time.

Error message:  The device reported an error on a request to write data to media.  Error reported:  Unbknown error.  there may be a hardware or a media problem.

Additional Setup questions:

I am also going to be using this device to backup all my Servers.  I however do not want Users to "see" these "shared" directories.  I know I can restrict access, but i'd rather not even "show' it as a shared directory...is this possible.

For Server backups, i'd create/schedule jobs on the actual Servers to backup to the NAS.  Within the NAS configuration, can these backed up folders then be "archived" on a scheduled basis based on rules created on the NAS?

Trying to setup Web Access to Shared Directories.  When I set it to my desired Port, I get a "...check internet settings" message.  I already setup my Firewall to port forward from my Static IP to local IP address via said port.  So I understand how Web Access works:

enable/configure NAS for Web Access as well as shared NAS folders

enable/configure firewall to port forward to NAS

goto buffalonas.com to be "forwarded" onto the said above shared web access forders

Is that about how it works?
