Title: Bittorrent: upload work downloads don't
Post by: Pavel on November 25, 2009, 12:39:04 PM

Here is my problem: at some point the Bittorrent client stopped downloading. Upload activity continues any problems.  As for downloads, it just shows all zeros in Seeds/Peers/Ratio/Availability and wouldn't start any activity there.

Everything worked well before. I had a few "stubborn" torrents like that in the past, but they would start working eventually.

Any suggestions on what might be a problem?

Hardware: LS-CHL334, Firmware version: 1.10

First of all, I recommend updateing the firmware to 1.21.

You should also make sure the port that bittorrent uses (default is 6881) is forwarded in your router. That's the most common cause of this type of problem.

Thank you. I updated the firmware, but that didn't help. What's interesting is some torrents works perfectly well - I was able to find a torrent that is working. So, I guess it is not the port forwarding issue. Also, it is not a problem with my provider - a uTorrent installed on my host computer downloads these torrents without a problem. So, right now it looks like the Buffalo client selectively blocks certain (but not all) torrents. Is this at all possible?

It's hard to say. The Linkstation doesn't support private trackers, so that may be your issue.

No, it's not about private trackers - the trackers I'm trying to use are all open (e.g mininova). But it does look like the problem is that LS cannot get a list of seeds from a tracker - as I said, I'm getting all zeros in Seeds/Peers. Is there a way to check if LS can connect to a tracker?

(One more thing - it's not ISP. A torrent client installed on my computer (which is connected to the same router as LS) works perfectly well.)

I still think it's a port forwarding issue. uTorrent uses uPnP to forward ports automatically, the LS does not.

I checked port forwarding - it has been configured. And as far as I can tell, it works fine - some torrents work fine. The ones that were downloaded before this problem started - some are seeding. My guess is still that it is a problem of getting info from trackers. Is there a way to check this?
