Title: LS-CHL1.0TB Can it be kept on 24/7
Post by: mapspots on November 25, 2009, 01:00:42 AM

I just purcahsed the LS-CHL1.0TB 2 weeks ago and am really enjoying the convenience that all 4 of my PC at home can see it on the network and access the share. I keep the Power option to ON at all time and i am wondering if it is going to damage / overheat / shorten the life of the harddrive inside. I am putting all my moves, music, documents there so they can be accessed from everywhere around the house but just skeptical how long the life of this harddrive will be.

my main PC - a laptop has the NAS Navigator installed and thats where I configure the LInkstation but if I have the power option on the Linkstation unit set to AUTO-POWER then its supposed to power down with the laptop. Now the problem is all other PCs around the house wont be able to wake the linkstatino back on unless the laptop is powered up again, correct?

whats the best practice with my setup to keep a long and healthy linkstation alive?

Setup info:

Dlink wireless router

Linkstation Live LS-CHL1.0TB

1 main PC - laptop

1 netbook

1 desktop DELL media center

1 desktop no name brand for print sharing

Yes it can be kept on 24/7.  I also recommend a good UPS.
