I recently acquired a TS-TGL without drives, which I thought was great, but I am having difficulty getting it up and running. After much research, I was prepared to do a TFTP recovery, but strangely enough it booted into EM mode right off the bat, retaining the IP that had been set previously. I am able to reach out to it with TeraNavi and change the IP, although that is not reflected on the LCD nor does it stay upon reboot.
Regardless of whether I change the IP or not I can communicate with the TS with the flash app. When I run it everything begins well, but once it gets to the Format stage the default 240 second timeout passes without being able to communicate with the TS further. Watching the LCD it indicates that a FW Update is in Progress, etc, and the drive access lights begin off, cycle through each of the drives once, wait a few seconds, cycle again, wait a few more, and then all begin flashing as if active. Even if I have the format wait retry multiple times it doesn't go beyond this point. Trying a firmware force has no effect positive or negative.
One thought I had is that I am trying to use 1 TB drives instead of 500 GB drives that were in it originally, but I haven't seen anything confirming or denying this as being compatible. They are also fresh drives with no previous partitions.
I've been working on this for two days now, and I'm out of ideas.
try it with only 500 gig drives. These devices have a 2tb cap for total storage. Try that and let us know if you continue to have issues.
Putting in a random assortment of odd sized drives worked to get it back off the ground. I was then able to swap the 1TB drives back in one at a time, resynching after each, and then doing an array wipe and redo it at least recognizes 1.75TB, so that's good even if it won't go over 2.
