I have the LS-WTGL/R1-V3 firmware version 3.10 (I know it is old, but it still works like a charm).

If I reset the password for the admin account, does that remove any data from the NAS?  Would I lose any access to the shared folders on the NAS?  I don't want to lose any files or lose access to folders, so I want to make sure resetting the admin password won't impact any of the folders or files.  To log back in after reset, would the password be "password"?

Any sound advice would be much appreciated!

Initialization is a reset procedure that
restores all settings back to the default, out
of box, configuration. All configuration,
users, groups, and backup jobs are lost,
but actual data and shares on the hard are
NOT lost. If you want all data to be erased,
reformat the drive.

My GUI Help button indicates this for password reset:

Initialization Options
Admin Password
You may choose the behavior of the reset button with regard to the Admin Password on the LinkStation. With the normal [Reset to Default] setting, the reset button will reset the admin password back to its default setting of "password".

If [Keep Current password] is selected, then the admin password cannot be reset. If you use this setting, please keep a copy of your password in a safe place! You will not be able to change any settings, or access the configuration GUI at all, if you forget this password.

I am trying to reset the admin password and I do not want to lose any data, settings, or folders on the NAS.

I have this very same box and version firmware (right now). So I'll try it later today and get back to ya.

Initialization - You can easily bring your LinkStation back to factory settings with the following steps.
1.  Move the power switch to the 'Off' position.  The LinkStation will shut down after about 90 seconds.
2.  While holding down the function button, move the power switch to the 'On' postion.  The function LED on the front of the LinkStation will begin to flash blue.
3.  While the Function LED is still flashing, hold down the function button for six seconds.


This reset the admin password (which had been changed, now it's back to default).
Changed IP back to DHCP (had static ip)
All user and groups were NOT effected (only admin pw reset all others used the pw that had been already assigned)
ALL data and files were SAFE. NO data or files were deleted or erased.
