Title: Problems open Word and Excel documents in Buffalo HD-CELU2
Post by: kat_lx on November 10, 2009, 08:25:35 AM

Hi,

I have a little lan with 3 workstations (2 with XP, 1 with Vista) and a Buffalo HD-CELU2 disk.

I´m a workgroup called MSHOME. I only work with excel and word files, and save all of them in Buffalo disk.

I use Microsoft Office 2003 in all pcs.

Trouble:

I can open all files in pc with Vista, but some files can´t open in pc´s with XP.

I have last firmware update in disk,

Any help?

I have a problem akin to yours.

INitially had 2 laptops sharing my HD-CELU2 drive via ethernet.  One vista laptop, one XP.  The XP could read/write files fine, the Vista couldn't open Office documents because it would give a warning they were "locked" by another user.

I upgraded both of my laptops to Win 7.  Now they both act as the Vista system did.... neither one can open office documents (using Office 2007 on each) because it gets an unspecific "locked" by another user warning.  Can open other files fine.

Any ideas?

There is a firmware upgrade available (in europe anyways) to resolved this exact issue. 2.14

Firmware update cured it for me!  Thanks very much.

Hi All,

I use a 1TB HD-CELU2, and also having the same problem. We use a Microsoft Access Database system and only one user can access the file at any one time. (6 PCs, all running XP, MS Office 2002, LAN with Router system)

I tried looking for the European firmware 2.14 mentioned above but I could only find firmware 1.47 for the HD-CELU2 model. I already updated my default firmware 1.4B  to the 1.47, but the problem persists.

I see that there is a firmware 3.02 for HD-CEU2. Can I use this one? (I believe this model only has USB but no LAN port, right?)

Please advice. Thanks!!

Mine has both USB and LAN ports.  I think most of the Firmware is the same, I thought mine was version 3.0 when I installed it but could be mistaken.

Of course, Microsoft Access problems could be related to Access itself.  Try sharing the Access file on something else and see if the problem is resolved.
