Title: Drive letter conundrum
Post by: jsimons on November 06, 2009, 05:20:15 PM

I am trying to set up two identical 1TB Drivestations as a backup solution on a MS Server 2003 server.  My problem is that when I connect to the server, the Drivestation takes up two drive letters (E: as Utilitiy_HD-CXU2 and the F: drive as the rest of the hard drive).  I cannot have the Drivestation grab the F: drive as that is being used already for a network app.  I can go into Windows Disk manager and change the drive letter no problem, but when I connect the other unit, it all reverts back to the E: & F: drives.  I can solve the issue by removing the virtual CD (E:) from the Drivestation, but I don't know how to do that nor do I know if that will hamper the performance of the whole drive.  Any suggestions as to how I can permanently assign a drive letter to this unit when I am connecting two different units (for backup swapping purposes)?

I know that you can not remove the cdfs partition or the virtual drive.  When it comes to not keeping a specific drive letter, try that with a workstation and see if it does the same thing.
