Title: LS-CHL 1 TB - Network connection hangs when copying/opening large file
Post by: danjerman on October 29, 2009, 10:22:50 AM

Hi,

i've had this a couple of months and am getting very fed up.     I have the 1TB LS-CHL in the UK, connected to a netgear DG834G wireless router.  Both of my laptops (1 x Toshiba and 1 x Dell - Both XP) experience this issue and both connect wirelessly.

When I open/save/copy a large file, my wirelessly connected laptop loses the drive in my computer and sometimes hangs the whole of my computer. for upto 2 or 3 minuntes.  When I used an SMB name to connect to the LS, I'd sometimes get a 'network name no longer valid' error message although now I map my drives with the ip address (i.e. \\192.168.0.x ), this doesn't happen although the hangs continue.

I previously held the files on an XP w/s with a 1TB drive and had no issues like this and could open/close/copy large files without any issues from both laptops over the wireless network.

I've turned off all nearby cordless phones, upgraded the firmware on the NAS, replaced cables and updated XP drivers and the problem continues.

Can anyone suggest anything as frankly, this NAS isnt working for me right now and I'm on the verge of declaring it not fit for purpose and returning it.

Any suggestions welcome.

Thanks
DM

PS - When i upgraded the firmware on the NAS to the latest, I did a factory default and reformat and the problem continues.

You always want to map the folders via IP.  This way you don't have to worry about name resolution.  How full is the drive?  Are you getting any error/info lights?  Also try setting the LS with a static IP.

Hi PCPIranha, Thanks for the reply. "You always want to map the folders via IP. This way you don't have to worry about name resolution" Yes, I do now. "How full is the drive?" Not very. 100M of the 1Tb in use right now "Are you getting any error/info lights?" Not looked at the unit while the issue occurs but it generally just sits there with th blue light on. I'll go and have a look at the LEDs next time I have 5 mins to test. ."Also try setting the LS with a static IP." Its always had a static IP ever since first setup. Cheers DM

Hi,

I've just checked and the LEDs stay 'normal' when the issue occurs.

Thanks

At this point I would hardwire the computers to the switch/router and see if the behavior continues.
