Title: Getting Vista to remember the username and password for the 1TB LS-WSGL
Post by: jim0203 on October 29, 2009, 05:21:09 AM

I've got a 1TB LS-WSGL set up on a home network. An XP desktop on the network connects fine with the drive, but another machine - running Vista - asks me to enter the username and password for the drive every time I reboot.

This is particularly annoying as I'm using the drive for backing up, so it is accessed automatically; this throws up a load of error messages if I haven't remembered to access the drive manually beforehand.

How can I get Vista to remember my username and password for this drive?

Do you have access restrictions set?  You should be able a check a box when mapping the shares that says "automatically reconnect at login"

I also find that reply unuseful.  I can click that "reconnect at login" and "remember password" button until I'm blue in the face; next time I reboot Vista still requires that I log into the share manually.  Otherwise, I can't get in.

I've gotten in the habbit of accessing my password-protected shares via FTP software rather than bothering with the operating system method.  My non-password-protected shares map easily.

Well then I would look into creating a login script to map the drive for you with the username/password. NET USE is the command you'll probably need

Thanks for this - but could you be more specific? What would an example script look like, and how would I get Windows to run it at startup?

Jim0203,

Start with a google search, and go from there. It probably entails creating a DOS Batch file, then adding it to the startup items. Here's a link to get you started. http://www.google.com/search?q=map+network+drive+login+script
