Title: Checking Drives
Post by: Starb7 on March 20, 2020, 08:06:43 AM
Hi All

I have a Buffalo drive dedicated for Backups (from another drive) and the log is reporting errors... that side is sorted but I thought I would run a disk check on it but the Buffalo warns against doing a Disk Check where there are 'Backup Shares'   Does anyone know why, would it destroy data, etc?

TIA

Yes- the disk check can corrupt any data that is actively being used.
If multiple users have files open, they need to save and close them.

Running a disk check kills any open file share activity or backup activity.
So to remedy that, you just turn off backup on the share itself while you do the disk check.

You never want to run a disk check without adequate backup.
