Title: Link Station LS-1000GL
Post by: EXP10 on October 16, 2009, 01:30:24 PM

I turned the drive on and got a error beep. I started the NAS navigator and the the program found the drive but the workgroup was unknown along with firmware. I found a thread that had a simular issue and said to update the firmware. I did and it fixed it. My NAS works great again. My question is why did it do this? All I did was turn it on from a overnight shutdown. Will this happen again?

Was it becuse the unit was in EM mode or something?  What did you do to fix it?  It is difficult to know what caused a problem notfully knowing what the problem was.

It sounds like it may have been in em mode, which usually means that the firmware got corrupted or lost due to power inconsistancies.

What is EM mode?

I turn the unit off everynight I go to bed and then I turn it on in the mornings when I wake up. I turned it on Thursday morning and on start up, it gave a error beeps.  I was out of the room so I could not count on how many beeps. I turned the unit off and then back on. The unit would be reconized through my router and NAS Navigator but I was unable to access the drive. NAS Navigator had a IP and MAC address but the workgroup and firmware was blank. So I hit the reset button in back and this did nothing. I then installed the newest firmware and it fixed the problem. I can now use it like I have in the past what a awesome NAS. I was just concerned that it did this and will it happen again. I have had it running for 10 months with no issues and no changes to the unit.

Sounds like EM mode to me (just booting off the rom).  See my previous post, but there shouldn't be a reason for concern.  I would get a UPS if you don't  already have one.
