Title: External USB DriveStation 1TB connection issue

   I just purchased a 1TB External Buffalo DriveStation USB Hard Drive with Encryption. I'm running Win XP SP3. Very new/clean/updated computer. No issues on it at all... except now. Plugged in the power cord to the Buffalo HD, plugged in the USB cord and then my computer acts as if it's loading the hard drive ... but it never actually loads or is installed. I have another external hard drive - SimpleTech SimpleDrive, 1 TB. Works just fine. Curious as to what I might try doing to fix this issue. I'd rather not have to return/exchange the hard drive. ==== If I go to Control Panel > Add Hardware, I get a message saying "You can install only one device at a time. Another device installation is underway, when it is finished you can try this wizard again." Is there a reason why the hard drive might take an extended period of time to load initially? Doesn't make much sense. - Jacob

There shouldn't be any special drivers or such needed for installation. The first thing I would suggest is powering down or removing the other USB drive, and plug in the Buffalo. Just for troubleshooting purposes. See if it loads.

 

The Drivestation uses standard USB hard drive drivers so Windows should see it as such.

Another thing which you can do is to connect it to another computer to see if it works.
