Title: How long should a Disk Erase take on a HS-DH320GL? Days? Weeks? Really...???
Post by: kjarrett on October 10, 2009, 12:13:46 PM

It's been going for several hours now.

I read some posts here about it taking days or weeks.

Right now I have a solid green POWER light, flashing green LINK/ACT light, and a flashing amber INFO light.

Admin UI loads and says:

Currently a full format is being carried out.
During this time the LinkStation settings can not be changed.
Also the file share service will not be available.

What should I expect?

Thanks, kj

How saturated was the drive?  Lot's of big files or small files?  How many folders?  Could take a day but shouldn't be that long but 2 days isn't standard but could happen.

According to my last backup ... 127 gb in 74,100 files with 5,357 folders. Combination of files, some very large (several GB) lots (most?) small.

Two days then? More?

I have seen a disk erase take 4-6 days.  It should give a progress indication.

Did you try Disk Format instead of Disk Erase?

I erased, then formatted. The latter was much quicker. At least now I know my data is totally gone. I'm selling the unit. Thanks, all...
