Title: HD-CE1.0TU2 corrupted
Post by: GeoffT on October 07, 2009, 06:40:14 AM

I have had this 1TB drive for almost a year.

I tried to download a firmwear update shortly after getting it but could not get the number to work.

I don't have the boxes and the number that looks like the serial number on the bottom of the drive (beside the model number) is not accepted.

Pretty much the same as this guy. http://forums.buffalotech.com/buffalo/board/message?message.uid=11144

However the green light is on and stays on.

It was working perfectly yesterday, though I had to disable the eco mode ages ago. Now the icon does not show up and if I use Wndows Explorer (In Vista) to double click on it I get a message saying the drive is not accessible and that the drive is corrupted or unreadable.

Does this mean there is nothing I can do? I tried rerunning the installation software, without reformatting but that did not change anything.

Thanks in advance,

Geoff

Try from multiple machines, different usb cables.  See if you can do a disc check on the drive or change it's drive letter.  There is a chance your data is gone.

Can't seem to get it to change the drive name or do a disc check. Can't get my wife's Mac to recognise it either. That's the only other computer in the house. I have no other USB cable with that fitting.

Most of the stuff on there is back up. Should I try and reformat it?

Thanks,

Geoff

Where did you purchase this drive from?

Do you still have the invoice/proof of purchase from the place you purchase this unit from?

If you need to get hold of your local Buffalo support as it seems that your internal drive might be faulty.

I will look for it but I am pretty sure it is out of warranty.

Thanks,

Geoff
