Title: Linkstation Pro Duo Trashbin missing
Post by: rmilessr on September 24, 2009, 03:43:35 PM
I just purchased a linkstation pro duo and have it configured as raid 1 running firmware 3.10. When I create a shared folder and have recycle bin enabled there is no trashbin created when files are deleted from the folder and they are lost. Any ideas on how to fix this or is it a bug with the 3.10 software? Thanks for any help

Hmm, we are still running 3.09 on ours.  Let me update ours and test it for you.  In the meantimes try resetting the unit to defaults and see if that helps.  Post back with the results.

When the unit arrived it had 3.09 and the trashbox folder was created when I deleted files but I had permissions errors when trying to access my shared folders through the network. Tech talked me through updating to 3.10 which cured the permissions problems but broke the trashbox. I tried a forced flash of 3.10 and also rebuilt the array1 creating new shared folders but the trashbox remains broken.

Im still testing on this, try resetting the unit.  It can clear up any inconsistancies that may be present

I tried resetting the unit with the same end result no trashbox even though recycle bin is enabled when creating a new shared folder and deleting files from it as a test.

Tested, works as expected, couldn't reproduce your issue. I did notice that after deleting a file off the new shared folder, I had to refresh the window to see the trashbox.  Are you using a mac or a PC?

I tried it from a Vista x64 PC and my Win XP Pro laptop. I am accessing the Linkstation Pro Duo through buffalonas.com as I am setting it up for family members to share photos through the web. Deleting photos through buffalonas.com fails to create the trashbox but I discovered deleting files from the share will create the trashbox and save the deleted files. It would seem reasonable that the trashbox would work both ways to protect files from being deleted through the web. Thanks for your help

clarification: Deleting files on the shared folder on the pc creats the trashbox, Deleting files while logged in through buffalonas.com does not.

That makes more sense, I will forward this to our developers

Thanks for helping to sort this out. It had me perplexed because I spent most of the day on the phone with tech support having me reflash the firmware, reset the unit and deleting and rebuilding the array etc. Then I stumbled on it working if the files are deleted locally from the share and failing if deleted through buffalonas.com access. This is serious to me because of the danger of a web user deleting files. I hope they come up with a fix before my time runs out to return the unit.

Any response on this from development or the engineers? It makes absolutely no sense for the trashcan not to be created if files are deleted through buffalonas.com web access. It works and files are saved if deleted through the local network so this has to be a firmware bug. The vulnaribility of losing files forever if a user deletes them from the web is a gaping security risk. This deserves some attention from the powers that be ASAP. Thanks

I've requested our engineers in US to verify the issue. We're required by Japan engineers to verify issues before we send data to Japan.

Always backup files that are important to you.

Is there any resolution in sight to correct the Trashbox not being created if files are deleted by a user through www.buffalonas.com? Firmare release to correct the typos in the backup option from the web interface?
