I should probably have waited a day before writing this due to the frustrations I have had with tech support and the lack of concern from the person who was "helping" me, but I will do my best to chill. :)  Okay chilled...

 

I purchased the Linkstation Quad a few months ago based on the sales person and the description on the box. I confirmed this by calling Buffalo before my 14 day return period was up. My question, can this device be used to back up our SBS 2003 server running the built in NT Backup.  Everything pointed to yes, so I put it up until I was ready to use it. 

 

2 months later, getting ready to set it up, and NT Backup never backs up, states desitation cannot be found.  Thinking it was a network card error, Buffalo kindly sent me a replacement, only to have the same thing happen today.

 

So my question is this... Is there ANYWAY to use this device to backup our SBS 2003 server using NT Backup (the built in backup solution)?  If so, PLEASE direct me.  I have configured this thing every which way, still cannot join AD, and I suspect that is the problem. 

 

I only wish I had known this was the outcome months ago when I coudl return the product for another one that will do this...

Sorry you are having problems with this device.  When it comes to backing up to our device we can only  support our own product line as there are so many backup programs out there.  This device is in an XFS Journaling file system.  Are you mapping the drive using the devices ip address in your sbs?   

   Thank you for your reply.  I am backing up directly to the IP address.  I can see it no problem, the problem is, apparently the SBS needs to have the device it backs up to be a member of the AD domain. Given this device can't do that, I was hoping for another solution.  I CAN access it from the server, I just cannot run the backup from the server, and of course the software that comes with the device also does not work with the SBS 2003.  My hair is turning grey. :)
