Hello,
I recently purchased a supposedly "new" LinkStation Live HS-DH500GL from a computer store in my city. I spent over two hours trying to get it installed on my network, and only when I tried resetting this device could I get it to be recognized on my network. Please note, even though it can be read, I always got errors when trying initially to install the drive to the network, so I am not sure if it was properly installed. What I do know is once the drive was reinitialized, when I browsed the drive for the first time, I found some p*rn on it, so obviously my drive was not new and someone has already had problems with it and returned it back to the store, who resold it to me.
NAS Navigator works. I could see the drive, and was I able to transfer files to it, so I thought everything was normal and working okay. Problems started (again) when I added a USB drive which I wanted to change permissions to, and I realized that I could not access "Browser Management". Everytime I put in the default user name and password, it tells me that it is not valid. I have tried all of the suggestions I could find on this site, to no avail:
1. Resetting the device 6 seconds
2. Resetting the device 30 seconds
3. Tried updating the firmware from 2.1 to 2.11 (didn't work on my Vista 64 bit, I could open on my XP, but the update wouldn't take because it asked for an administrator password.
4. Disabled firewall/anti-virus programs.
5. Created an exception on my firewall for the I.P. address where NAS Navigator says my device is connected to (192.168.1.4).
I am at my wits ends. I bought this device so I could connect a couple of external drives to it to access from my laptop, but having these drives only be read only defeats the purpose.
Any suggestions? I have already returned a Iomega NAS that could not read drives formatted NTFS, and the computer shop where I bought these devices only has one other drive, A LinkStation Live 1 TB. But if I am having problems with the server I have now, I don't see how buying a server with more capacity will solve the problems.
Thanks.
