Title: Unable to complete Firmware update on Model HD-H1-1.0TGL/R5 and HD-H2.0TGL/R5 units
Post by: F344 on September 14, 2009, 01:25:05 PM

Equipment and status:

I have 3 Terastations on the network.  One Model HD-H1-1.0TGL/R5 firmware 2.16 and two Model HD-H2.0TGL/R5 one with Firmware 1.12 and the other is unable to complete the Firmware upgrade from 1.12 to 2.16 and thus has no firmware listed;

Network Environment:

The 3 Terastations are set to receive their IPs from the local DHCP server  and the local DHCP server  is set to assign the IPs as static based on the MAC addresses of the Terastations.

History:

After more that 2 years of untroubled functioning, the Model HD-H1-1.0TGL/R5 began disappearing off the network.  A restart would bring it back but the time between restarts was less than once a day. I saw that there was an Firmware update available so I downloaded it and attempted to update the Model HD-H1-1.0TGL/R5.  I tried a couple of time and it didn't take, so I tried it on one of the HD-H2.0TGL/R5 and that didn't work either.  AI tried a third time on the HD-H1-1.0TGL/R5 and it took.  I can't recall doing anything different on the successful Firmware update.

The continued to  HD-H1-1.0TGL/R5 drop from the network intermittently so I removed power from both the troubled units for 3 or 4 days to see if a cold restart might help.

In updating the firmware I tried simply updating over the network and also connection a computer directly to the units with the manually set IPs specified in the help forums..  Sometimes the update process would conclude with a message that the update failed and sometimes with would say it was successful but in fact it was never successful.

Current status:

I can address all three units with the client software and the update software.  The HD-H1-1.0TGL/R5 and one of the HD-H2.0TGL/R5 are booting into emergency mode and have no firmware listed.  The third unit is operating normally with firmware 1.12 as I am afraid to try and update it.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.  Thanks.
