Title: Linkstation Quad and Backup Exec problem
Post by: gav777 on September 09, 2009, 10:48:05 AM

Hello,

Has anyone managed to get BUE (using 10.d) to create a B2D folder on a linkstation Quad. After purchasing, I 'discovered' that it doesn't have AD support like the Duo, and wondering whether it's actually possible to create a folder.

Have looked at these threads and followed am attempting to set it up with a standard UNC path after adding the NAS to my hosts file.

The error in BUE I recieve is "the request is not supported" - however it also appears I'm unable from the server hosting BUE to use a unc connection to the NAS device. Other machines on the network however have no problem 'seeing' it.  Could this be the cause - although I'm wondering whether the lack of AD integration means that it's never going to be possible ?

All tips/hints/work arounds greatfully recieved.

cheers

Gav

Sorted, but requires a few tweaks.

Possibly because my BUE is running on a backup DC, it couldn't see the NAS until I changed the GUI on the NAS from windows authentication to Linkstation authentication.

So far, the B2D files are just sitting in the root of \share and haven't tested it's ability to work on other folders.  Path was \\nas\share - nas being the name of the device.

I also added the NAS to the hosts file through another BUE/NAS forum recommendation, although would have thought that DNS would have taken care of that ?

One other issue I came across was when attempting a firmware update, I was recieveing an error message as the NAS was on a Gigabit switch but the machine running Lsupdater wasn't. (although still on the same LAN).

When I ran the update from a machine on the same switch it worked ok.
