Title: LinkStation Pro LS-XHL
Post by: economist on August 23, 2009, 06:09:27 AM

Quick question before I buy

Is it possible to backup the data from my NAS to a separate External Harddrive or to another NAS.

In that I'm copying (using ROBOCOPY) the data from an external  Maxtor OneTouch Pro II to my new LS-XHL as I type this, it wouldn't surprise me much to find that copying in the opposite direction was also possible!

Yeah I know it is possible to transfer data from an External drive to the NAS but I am not sure if it is possible the other way. Can you confirm this .  THanks

Sorry, I was being somewhat flippant.  Yes, you can copy in either direction.  I've just done a 4.5 MB file copy from the LS-XHL to the Maxtor, just to prove it.

Linkstation has a rudimentary backup program on it. It will backup directly from the Linkstation to a connected USB drive. It won't backup to another NAS unless it's made by Buffalo, and even that is a hassle.

If you are running the backup program on your PC, then you can backup to any drive on your network.
