Well, I came back from a business trip and now my HD-H1.0TGL/R5 is sitting there with the diag light blinking 6 times and pausing. Based on what I have seen in the documentation and have read on the forums, this is a potential HD failure. I spoke with tech support this morning and they walked me through the init boot process and it still didn't boot. So, based on their recommendation, I went and bought a replacement hard drive and went one by one replacing each one one at a time and booting the unit. Each time, it still came up with the diag light blinking six times. The only thing that has changed recently, about 2 months ago, was that I stupidly upgraded to 2.0 something. I don't have access to the web gui or anything. Any opinions? I am totally screwed other than going to the UFS Explorer route? I mean, I bought this POS for the RAID capability and now it appears I don't have that protection. If anyone has any thoughts, it would be greatly appreciated.

The E06 means it cannot load the kernal or you have a bad HDD. When you removed the drives individually are you sure that you always got 6 blinks? It will still give you a RAID error when you remove the bad drive, but the unit will actually boot up. If you already tried EM mode then these are your only two options

RAID is backup against single HDD failure, if this is the case then removing the drive and replacing it will fix the issue. RAID is not, however, data backup. This is a relatively common misconception.
Yes, I'm sure it blinked six times after each drive replacement. It took forever, but I wanted to be thorough. When I tried EM mode, the technician had me hold the init button for ten seconds after it was powered and then had me let it go. The diag and power LEDs were blinking in unison for a long time and never changed state. They blinked for a few minutes that same way and the technician seemed to think that it won't recover, so we stopped that.
Understood regarding the concept behind RAID, but it also means that there is some level of fault tolerance. However, considering what I have done, that doesn't seem to be the case either.
Is there any workaround for the kernel not loading or do I have a new boat anchor?
Then you just tried initializing it not booting into EM mode. Turn the unit off and then hold down the button as it boots up. Then see if it shows up in the nasnavi
My interpretation of EM mode is that I'm supposed to hold down the init button until I hear a beep. I have tried holding it for a really long time and I never hear anything. Is this the correct procedure? I just need to verify what I have found in other posts.
No you hold down the button as you power the unit on. You can let go after a few seconds. I think you're mistakeing this with the reset procedure.
Yes, I did that already when I was speaking with the Buffalo tech staff and it never booted up.
One of those two troubleshooting steps should have worked. I take it the unit's no longer under warranty? Unfortunately we have no further troubleshooting steps that I know of.
