Title: Terastation III - Lost Boot Image
Post by: vincentchua on August 17, 2009, 05:39:24 AM

I am using a TS-X2.0TL/R5-AP.

It comes with 4 x 500GB HDD.

Due to certain reason, I need to sell away my 500GB HDDs.

Now, when I plug in 4 x 1TB HDDs.

Problem arises.

Initially, it is still able to detect by the NAV.

However, I am not able to access it from WEB.

So, I upgrade the firmware from 1.04 to 1.05.

After upgrading to 1.05, the whole NAS failed totally.

Now, I always see

TFTP Mode E06

Lost Boot Image

I searched through the net and it asked me to try Boot recovery.

Boot recovery able to send 2 blocks to the NAS

Page 1 and Page 2 identical to the instruction page.

But when I run NAS, it always cannot detect.

So there is no way for me to re-upgrade the firmware again.

Please HELP!

We cannot support upgrading the hard drives.

Firstly, I thought all NAS allow upgrading of HDDs. If my 4 x 500GB is full, I am allow to upgrade to 4 x 1TB...this is stated in the manual. Do you mean if I get another 4 x 500GB and plug it into my NAS, the whole thing will work?

Try the TFTP procedure to get the firmware on the drives.  Jotin is right in that we do not support the drives once you upgrade them (they aren't our drives!) but we will still support the unit itself.

I apologize for the confusion

Where exactly? I thought it only states replacing a single HDD ( ie in the event of a failure) not all 4 drives at one time.

Where is the TFTP image for the TS-X2.0TL/R5? This fairly annoying that the OS and Boot Image are stored on the hard drives. $1000.00 and struggle to upgrade the drives. :(

Thanks..
