Hey guys,

 

Picked this up super cheap from a shop here in Japan and already im finding problems with this product, anyway i was wondering if i could get some english firmware and just update my external harddrive with the new firmware and convert it from Japanese language to English.

 

Right now i can run some English tools etc but nothing to much else. Is this a do-able thing and if so where can i get the firmware because you need a serial to get it from the US websites etc, i still dont understand why in hell they thought it was a great idea to use serials to download software updates..

I need to get this problem fixed ASAP, i done this same thing with one of my old Buffalo wireless adapters changed it to english with new firmware.

   If you do not have the unit in English you can download the firmware from buffalotech.com under support->downloads. Make sure you click on the United States when you go to the site so you can get the American version. Otherwise you will just have to change the language manually through the web interface. The second tab on the left is "Basic". When you click on that you will have a bunch of options in Japanese. The bottom of the page is the language settings. There are 2 boxes, the first one is language and the other says Windows with some more Japanese characters, in that one select CP437 and then hit apply. After applying, log out and log back in. It should be in English then.

   

How can i download the firmware from the US sites if my serial does not work, your serial number to download the software and firmware only works within the region you bought your product. So i bought it in Japan it will only let me download software off the Japanese site, which is Japanese firmware etc.

 

What do you mean about the web interface? Changing the lanugage manually? I dont understand any of this?

   If you take the IP address of the NAS device and plug it into the address of your web browser it will give you a login prompt. The username/password is admin/password. when you get to that home page the directions I gave you before will start to make sense. You'll see what I'm talking about in there.

   

How do i get the IP of my external harddrive? I have never done this before, like it does not have LAN support or anything on it, its just an external hardrive how do you get IP etc for that?

 

Im lost, are you talking about something to do with lan, my external does not have lan.

I am also looking out for knowing about the firmware very well. It is useful for everyone to understand the english. Please give any suggestions for this post. All the suggestions are realy welcome.

   I apologize, I seemed to have mixed up the model you had for a nas because you were asking about firmware and the external drives really don't have any firmware.
