I'm really not sure what's going on, it's something that started relatively recently on the machine.
Most of the time the linkstation quad will give me a reliable (although not great) 10 MB/s read/write (note this is over a gig-e switch).
Occassionally though the performance will drop through the floor for seeminly no reason. By through the floor I mean sub 100 KB/s... This is as measured from Windows desktop, my Linux laptop, and I can't measure it form my PS3 but videos become unplayable.
I suspected it was something to do with the swith, but during the times when the LSQ was playing up, I copied files bac and forth between my Linux/Windows machines at transfer rates in excess of 30 MB/s over the same switch.
I suspected that it might be a maintenance routine of the LSQ, so I disabled nearly all of the features (including setting the twonky config to not scan on an hourly basis for new content, and that doesn't seem to help.
Is there anyway I can figure out what's going on? It's very frustrating not being able to ssh to these boxes and just take a look at what's going on.
1) LS-QL
2) LS-QL F/W 1.11, upgraded from what it came with 1.05 as one of the remedy steps to rule out.
3) Not really sure how desktop details are applicable, but here goes nothing
i. Dell XPS 730, Quad Core machine @ 2.66, 1 x Broadcom NetExtreme Gig-e, running Windows 7 Release Candidate
ii. IBM Think Pad T60, Dual Core of some description, Wireless most of the time although hasa wired gig-e capable card. Running Jaunty Ubuntu with the latest updates.
iii. PS3, latest firmware release that I use for DLNA playback
4)Intermittent performance problem, persists after a reboot of the LSQL, will usually happen once a day, normally during the night (21:00 onwards), problem will persist despite as mentioned reboots, change of client machines etc... or change of network switches. Generally resolved (without any action on my part) next day.
5) Searched the forum, found no real mention of performance problems on LS-QL, certainly nothing intermittent.
Classic...
The problem started about 20 mins ago (rough estimate), that was the trigger to register on the forums and post the issue.
Now the problem is gone and I can play videos on my laptop over CIFS with no issues.
I didn't do any of my normal troubleshooting steps btw, that was just the "norm" of it fixing itself without any reboots, client changes, or anything like that.
A few other things to rule out, I'm not normally doing anything on the LSQL when this problem starts, so it's not like it's triggered after a series of events like writting data or similar. Most of the time I use the LSQL for reading data (mainly video files and music).
The 5 lights down the front remain the same, 4 green/yellow lights for the disks, + 1 solid blue light for the system being on.
Not sure what you mean by switch position? If you mean how are things cabeled up,
1. Uplink to my ADSL2+ router
2. My desktop
3. The linkstation
4. PS3
5. Xbox (when I use my laptop wire I unplug this one)
I have swapped ports around in case it's a duff port.
If I've missed your question completely please let me know.
Thanks
