I've just bought a HS-DH500GL and enabled the media server. I can see files and folders fine on my DLink DSM-510 media streamer but when I come to fast forward, pause or rewind a video file it only shows the first 20 mins or so of the video. If I've watched 30mins and I pause the video when I press play again it bugs out an goes back to the main file / folder list. I can't fast forward more than 20 mins. I'm pretty sure it's not the DSM-510 because that has been working fine streaming from a Tversity server on a PC, but I didn't want the PC on all the time. I've read that PCast has it's limitations and that Twonky is a better solution but it looks like Twonky are no longer supporting NAS devices and I can't seem to get it working. Does anyone know what might be wrong with PCast?
Cheers,
Are you sure it's not your media player? I have the exact same linkstation with FW 2.10 and dont have that problem what so ever.
I don't think it's the media player, because that works fine with Tveristy or the Windows Media server from my PC, but I can't be sure without trying another media player with the Linkstation - mine is on FW 2.10 too. Which media player are you using? The DSM-510 is DLNA certified so should work with a Linkstation
I've investigated this further last night, and it would seem that my streamer doesn't see the correct duration for the mpegs on my Linkstation, hence why I can only fast forward or rewind for the duration the streamer thinks it is - annoying when the film is 2 hours long and the streamer sees it as 6 minutes. I tried an wmv file last night and that had the correct duration. I'm not sure where the problem lies, but when I use a Tversity Media Server on my PC my streamer sees the correct duration.
Hey Marc, I too have a DSM-510 that works flawlessly with Tversity installed on my laptop. I bought a refurbished unit of the HS-DH500GL and it worked instantly with the DSM-510 until one day I found out that there is a new firmware and I upgraded, which was very nice.
But that's when my problems started; when I power up the DSM-510, I can still see the LinkStation as a server but there are absolutely NO contents under Music, Pictures or Videos. If I log onto the LinStation using windows explorer, I can see everything! I played around with PCast settings many times but I still can't see the contents of the LinkStation using the DLINK media streamer
My question is: Is there a possibility that the folders that I am seeing when using the DSM-510 are not the same ones when I log onto the LinkStation using windows explorer? Should I format the HD and upload my media again (This is going to hurt)
I am wondering if you had experienced anything similar and if so how did you fix it or get around it? Thanks for you help
