Title: user permissions on linkstation live
Post by: ThePanda on August 06, 2009, 04:26:22 PM

I would like to share some files on the network as read only while allowing myself to have full r/w control.

I assumed - wrongly it appears - that i could set Shared Folder Attributes to R/W then enable access restrictions, add myself to the R/W group and "guest" to the read only group.

This seems like pretty basic permissions.  What am i doing wrong?

First, when inquiring about a product please include a model number.  Also those settings shouldn't be a problem as long as you are not using the admin and you mapped restricted shared folders first.

i have created a new user account and mapped a drive connecting as that user on pc1.

When i try and access the share form pc2 i am asked for a username and password, however i would expect to be able to connect as a guest without requiring a username/password

We don't recommend using the guest or admin to log into the unit.  Try creating your own guest account (just use guest as password or something) and let me know if it works.
