Title: model hd -hc500iu2 external hard drive

hi  running vista

when i go to my computer and look at all the drives i no longer see an icon for the external drive.Yet I know the external drive is working because I ran itno something that read mass external storage. any suggestions...on what I should do...would hate to throw it out... thanks matt

Is the unit showing up in disk management?  If so what does it say for filesystem?  Does it say its healthy or unalllocated?
