(I'm writing this after being on hold for 55 minutes w/ tech support, someone finally answered the call only to hang up less than a second later!)
Model: LS-W2.0TGL/R1, purchased 6 months ago.
Firmware: Unknown
This unit was connected to my wireless router via the ethernet cable that came in the box. It appeared as driver letter "L" on several computers (3 PC's and 1 Mac) around the house, and we accessed it successfully, though it was slow at times.
Several days ago it stopped being accessible on all computers. In Windows Explorer, drive "L" continued to appear, but with a red X. When I clicked on the drive to expand the folders, I got the following error message:

I removed the cable from the wireless router and connected it directly to one of the computers. I've rebooted the computers and the drive several times.
NAS Navigator displays a "Discovering Tera/Linkstation on the network" message and eventually displays no drives or shares. However, in the lower right corner of the Navigator screen, the IP address is set to something/someone from Pretoria, South Africa. (I am in the U.S., east coast area).
Since I cannot access the drive, I cannot verify the firmware let alone update it. And I've read a lot of cautionary things about bricking the unit while attempting a firmware upgrade.
So . . . how do I get my drive back?
Well no worries, this can be done.
On the computer with nas navigator open, and showing the IP of the buffalo storage device, do the following: (assuming Windows):
Start -> Run
in the box type: \\IP-of-Linkstation\
For example:
\\169.254.202.1\
Do you see your shares pop up?
Another thing to try, while NAS Navigator is showing the IP Address, open up a web browser to that IP:
http://169.254.202.1/
(or if you were using secure: https://169.254.202.1/ )
Can you login at that point?
The IP you are seeing looks like a factory default, so the 'location' is a bit bogus in this context.

The IP you are getting is a default microsoft ghost IP when there is not an active network connection from your DHCP server. Remove the LS from the network, connect directly to your PC via LAN, reset the device, set a static IP on the NIC card of the PC to match the range the LS is on.
Once done logon to the interface page and set a static IP / gatway / dns etc to match your network settings and then reattach the LS to your router / switch / hub.
