Title: Terastation Live – Sony PS3 media serving problem
Post by: Rollybrick on July 07, 2009, 12:53:54 PM
Hi, I'm trying to "play" photographs, video and IPOD music stored on my 3GB Terastation Live on my TV via a Sony PS3. The problem – playing media is a very hit and miss affair – directories and files on the Terastation don't always appear on the PS3 – and therefore can not be accessed. Can anyone help please with this problem?, alternatively is there an other media server software that can be installed on the Terastation that doesn't require a PHD in computing to get up and running!!

Looking at some posts earlier in the year, it seems that this problem has come up before and with my Terastation model. One thread I found finished with "So, please, can anyone answer the question of whether the HD-HTGL/R5 can/will ever be made to work with the PS3". Sorry but I couldn't find any answer to his question.

Help really appreciated, thanks everso.
Graham
p.s. I'm not a compter expert!!

First, I want to inform you of this so that you dont later wonder why the connection is slow... The "Update Media List" is set to automatic Update, this means the the drive will be constantly searching your whole network for new info, in doing that it will slow down the rest of connections... I would recommend this option at first but once, you get all your data on there, use the manually update and just update it every time you add something

Second, installing any third party software on the unit will VOID warranty and is not support because it cannot be done (at least not without completely hacking the Kernel)

anyway...

First, make sure that the PS3 has the latest FW, Im not sure if 2.76 is the latest version or not!

Are you using the default "Share" folder on the unit for this? If so, I would recommend creating a new folder and test that.

You can also try Initializing the unit, through the web interface (Maintenance> Initialization> Restore to Defaults)

You can Force Update FW, but you will want to do another Init after that!

I've had this same problem since day 1 and have never had the time/energy to work it out.  I've recently bought a HD camcorder from Sony and want to start to view my saved HD movies stored on my terastation on my TV (using my PS3).  I have the following config:

PS3 Software level 3.01

HS-DH2.0TGL/R5 firmware level 2.13

Pcast settings:

Media server: enable

Media Folder: share, USB DISK checked

Media server password: disabled

Limit DLNA access: disabled

Update Media List: Automatic updates

From the PS3 the terastation shows up with no issues.  When I try to do anything on the PS3 (Music, video, pictures) he can not find the folders on the terastation. He seems to be able to find some but not all.  Even for the folders that he does find, when you select it the files that you are looking for don't show up.  Example: I use Pictures on the PS3, select the terastation, navigate to folders and when I get to one that is listed (that I know has JPG's in it) the folder appears to be empty.  So in the share folder in the terastation not all of the main folders show up and those that are there they seem to be empty.

I would really like for this to work but really have no clue what might be the issue.  Please help. . .

By the way, I tried the reset to factory settings and no luck. . . .

I have exactly the same symptoms, trying to play media from my Terastation into DirecTV.

I can browse the folder tree, but no files appear. (Also, at first it only showed some of the top

level folders.)

I am also trying to get my media files on my Terastation to show up on my PS3 and I am seeing the exact same problems.

Once I enabled PCast, a "pictures" folder appeared on the TeraStation shared folder and I am also seeing that the amount of disk-space available on the Terastation is slowly decreasing. The PS3 is seeing the TeraStation and is reporting some folder information but it does not show any actual media files.

Another interesting thing is that iTunes running on Windows machines on the same network are seeing all the music files on the Terastation but are unable to play them (currently using iTunes 8.02, I will upgrade and test again).

I am running a HS-DHTGL and I have updated to the latest firmware both the TeraStation (2.14) and the PS3 (3.01).

Any additional details from people who have actually managed to get this to work would be highly appreciated.
