Linkstation Live - HS-DH1000L - Firmware 2.11
Have set up FTP - opened Ports 20&21 - set shared folders - everything seems to work ok, but after typing in ftp://ip address (I'm using IE just to test this), you see some folders named "disk1", "info" and "msdfs_root".... can't see anything in the "disk1" & "msdfs_root" folders, but can see files etc in the info folder, which includes the NasNavi exe files....
Is this normal? I haven't even logged into the FTP server yet and I have access to these files? I'm not sure that should happen. Any thoughts on this?
Thanks for your help!

the disk1 and info folders are hard wired to the firmware (i.e. they cannot be removed). The info folder just contains some manuals and utilities while the disk1 folder is the folder representative of the array (seeing as how this firmware shares traits of some of our NAS devices that have RAID capability). The msdfs_root folder is used in DFS and should hold no consequence for being displayed. That and you're accessing the NAS via FTP locally therefore your computer is making the request on the local network and the router is just bouncing that request to the NAS. Hence, you shouldn't see some of these folders when accessing the device remotely. Hope this clarifies a bit :)
You probably dont have "ftp" ticked on the shared folder setup page, make sure this is ticked for whatever folder you want to have ftp access.

You haven't logged into the LS through FTP? Do you have access restrictions on your Share folders?
If yes to both, this is why you can't see you shares.
I would recommend using an FTP client to access it, not a browser. I would recommend FileZilla (Client) or FireFTP (FireFox add-on). Web browsers simply aren't reliable enough for FTP, but if you must use one...
Log into it using
ftp://username:password@"IP Address"
I use FireFTP and it works great and fast.
My problem is security. When I turn on security in my account in FireFTP I get the following error:
500 AUTH not understood.
TLS and SSL give the same message.
Do anyone have a solution or a better FTP program? The nice thing using FireFTP is that once a file are opend it is auotumatically saved on the Buffalo as if it was a "real" server.
