Title: using old HD-HB25ou2, computer no longer recognizes it
Post by: MattF on June 30, 2009, 11:23:09 PM

Wondering if any had come across the same problem:

I was trying to back up files from the older Buffalo drive to a Western Digital drive.    Previously the Buffalo drive had been working perfectly, but when I went to start moving files (after plugging in the USB cable to the Western Digital drive) the computer no longer recognized the drive, instead referring to it as "local drive" and asking for it to be formatted.        Obviously this loses all the files and is not a possiblity.

In device manager the Buffalo drive is now labeled as "USB-HS WDC WD2500" - this looks like a Western Digital naming convention.

I have tried all the solutions I know, including going through device manager, downloading the old driver, etc.   Any suggestions?

Many thanks in advance.

Do you have the same problems when the WD is not inserted? If not then just try changing the drive letter of the Buffalo unit.

Same problem whether the WD drive is plugged in or not.    And using multiple ports or changing the name doesn't work either.   Thanks
