Title: Linkstation CH1.0tl cannot get IP address
Post by: pbleisch on March 27, 2018, 02:04:36 AM
I have a LinkStation CH1.0tl that recently became unavailable on my local network.  We have several Windows PCs and Macbooks that previously used the shares on the device and none of them can see the LinkStation anymore.

I was looking at it more closely tonight and (using NAS Navigator2) I was able to see that the LinkStation was configuring to an automatic private IP (e.g. 169.x.x.x) instead of my home network's IP range (192.168.3.x).  I can get to the LinkStation settings via a web browser pointing to the auto configured IP.

Things I've tried:

1. Checked the router to see if I could see any DHCP leases or log lines related to the LinkStation's MAC address.  Nothing.  As far as I can tell, the LinkStation is not attempting to request an IP.
2. Reset to factory settings for DHCP (via Function + On switch).  Did not help.
2. Updated the firmware to 1.74.  Did not help other than NAS Navigator2 no longer crashes when I update the IP through it.
3. Tried configuring a static IP on the LinkStation (several different attempts).  The most success I've had is that I can set the static IP and subnet mask, but leave the Default Gateway empty.  In this case, NAS Navigator2 shows the IP settings that I configured but I cannot get to the device via a web browser, the device does not respond to pings, and the router does not show the device as connected on the network.

I suspect this is some mismatch between my router and the LinkStation configuration -- or -- the LinkStation network config is oddly screwed up.  I cannot recall any changes to either the router or LinkStation config in six months (or more).  All other devices (PCs, consoles, Fire TV, smart TV, ...) on my local network are working fine.

I am not sure what to look at next.  Is there any way to get more information on what the LinkStation believes is happening with DHCP and IP configuration?

Thanks,
Paul

Reset the unit via the browser -> System -> Restore/Erase -> Restore Linkstation.

Then connect it to your LAN and see if it gets a DHCP IP.

Thanks davo.  I didn't realize that the function button flavor of reset did less than the web settings one.

This fixed the problem.
