I have a degraded drive in slot 2 on my Buffalo LS.
The drives are set to Raid 1
If I replace the faulty drive with a new one can I be sure the information will copy from Slot 1 to Slot 2 when initiating the new drive. Do I get too choose this somewhere?
Thanks
P
Yes, you can destroy all your data while removing the wrong drive
Make a backup before repairing the raid
Hi oxygen8
Yep, completely get that. I know all the correct data is on drive 1 and that drive 2 is corrupted. My question is though, if I replace drive#2 (as I know how to do) Can I then be sure that the data will copy from drive #1 to my new drive #2, or do I get to 'guide' that at some point?
I can't afford to risk overwriting the data as it only exists in one place
Thanks
P

The data
should not be deleted but as with everything in life this cannot be gauranteed. To be fair, if the data is important then there shouldn't be any question of you having at least one backup, and no, RAID is not a backup.

As
davo said, if all of your valuable data is on
only on a NAS RAID array then you do not have a backup. My valuable data is on my desktop. My NAS (dual disk RAID 1) is backup #1 and backup #2 is a USB drive kept in a safe.
