Title: LinkStation cannot browse shares nor map network drive
Post by: SpartanGA on January 30, 2018, 10:37:56 AM
Hello
I have a Linkstation (LS-CHL42C) that is a few years old.  Firmware 1.73, use NAS navigator 2.92

I can access the data using twonky server without issues.

I am attempting to map the drive so I can easily access from my laptop.

When I Browse Shares from navigator, it doesnt do anything.

when I right click and say map shares, it gives error that could not map share, create a folder named Share before mapping the drive.

When did it stop working? What OS are you running on the laptop?

I'm having the exact same problem...I've created the shared folder by logging in via the IP address but NAS Navigator can't browse and I'm getting the same error msg about needing to create a folder named "Share"

OS: Windows 10 Home

The LinkStation also doesn't show up in Windows Explorer but it does show in NAS Navigator

Ugh

You need to re enable SMB1 on your Windows OS

Thanks!  The SMB1 took care of being able to browse the share folder and map it to a network drive letter.....but the LS still doesn't show up on the network in Windows Expolorer.  I can see the assigned drive letter (L:) listed under "This PC" but it doesn't show up under the network and therefore can't be identified as a network drive available to save a backup or system image.

You should be able to use it with a direct link like:  \\ip address\foldername

SMB1 and SMB2 are active...

Its weird, below is a screen cap.  The Windows Explorer screen on the left that was opened by just opening it "normally" shows the mapped share folder (L:) but doesn't show the LinkStation in the "Network".  The Windows Explorer on the right which opened when I double clicked the LinkStation in NAS Navigator shows the LinkStation in the "Network" and the mapped L: drive.  But if I close that and just open explorer, its not there.

in the address bar in an explorer window, or right-click on the start button and choose "run" to get a run dialog.

I have the same issue. NAS Navigator would not map or browse any shares on LinkStation NAS (I have 2 of them).  NAS Navigator 2 sees the LinkStations, but when clicking "browse" nothing happens, when clicking "map" it gives me an error ("could not map the share").  In the settings through the browser I have not problem seeing the folders and also from another PC on my home network (no problem).  SMB is activated. Typing the "\\IP\share name" in Windows explorer also produces an error message.  The funny thing is that it started after we moved and I just recreated our home LAN in the new house the same way it was in the old house - no setting changes or upgrades of Windows or any other changes occurred to the computers or the network to my knowledge, yet this problem started.

My question is if there is any expert service I could pay for to help me with this that you guys know of?  I see others were unable to resolve a similar problem.

Hello. I had the same issue.  Found out the root cause was that my work PC did not allow guest access to the share drive. Resolved by:
1) Open file explorer
2) Left click on 'Network'
3) Select 'Map network drive......'
4) Tick the 'Connect using different credentials'
5) Enter the address '\\IP address of the linkstation\share'  into the folder box.
6) Click 'finish' and then enter your linkstaion login credentials to access the share drive.

Hope this helps!
