Title: Web Access Issues, TS-XEL
Post by: garrman on January 21, 2018, 08:29:15 PM
Howdy folks.

I am having one heck of a time getting the web access on my TS-XEL to work. It is networked through a switch in to a ATT U-Verse Pace 5268AC modem. I have read every tutorial I can find on forwarding ports and have forwarded ports 81 and 9000. It works from inside the network but will not work outside.

Any ideas what I am missing?

Thanks,
Garrman

You need to determine what ports are open on your internet connection. Port 9000 may not be open. Check it using canyouseeme.org.

Sorry, I should have added earlier. Port 81 and 9000 are both open according to canyouseeme.org.

As I mention above, works on my LAN, just not outside.

If you point a web browser to your external IP address and port does it bring up the WebAccess UI?

Yes. I appended my external ip address with :9000 and it didn't work. I received the message below.

Bad Request
Your browser sent a request that this server could not understand.
Reason: You're speaking plain HTTP to an SSL-enabled server port.
Instead use the HTTPS scheme to access this URL, please.

I used the https:// prefix and it went right to it.

I turned off WiFi on my iPhone to test. If I prefix my external ip fttps:// and append with :9000, I can reach my share. If I try to go in through buffalonas.com, it just hangs. If I go into the TeraStation control panel and disable https/ssl encryption, all I get is a php info page.

The buffalonas.com site is essentially just a dynamic DNS provider. It appears that for some reason it's having difficulty obtaining the correct IP address.
