Title: RAID Reconstruction Times
Post by: yopami on September 19, 2017, 04:40:01 AM
Hello, everybody.

We have a Buffalo TeraStation with 8 SATA 4Tb disks. We have a RAID 5 mounted on these disks and one of the disks has bad sectors, so we want to replace it.
Do you have experience of the time needed for RAID reconstruction in similar situations?
The NAS will be performing night-time tasks, so the reconstruction speed will be slowed down during this time.

Greetings and thank you very much.

There are several factors here to deal with. What model TeraStation? What size drives installed? Speed of a rebuild is also affected by access, so if the unit is busy that will also cause the rebuild to take more time.

Again, activity can also affect this but I would guess in the 72 hour range.
