Title: After Firmware Update, cannot connect to NAS
Post by: SirFatty on July 29, 2017, 07:25:46 AM
TeraStation TS5400D0804

Updated the firmware via the web interface, system rebooted and now I cannot connect.

Cannot ping the static IP assigned.
Looked in DHCP logs thinking the network settings had changed, no luck.
The NAS Navigator 2 cannot locate it on the network.

I connected a monitor and I see the following (repeating) message:

Get_Local_Host: hostname 'NAS2' bad

NAS2 is the hostname originally assigned.

I've had this device running for over a year without issue, and had at least a couple firmware updates.  Not sure what's  happened this time, but this is a real problem as I support several of these.  Need some help getting this resolved.

Does anyone from Buffalo participate in these forums?  NAS bricked by a firmware update... this is ridiculous.

Probably need to do a full recovery, do you have a backup?

yes, fully backed up each week (data is not too dynamic).

This is not the first time I've had issues with these TeraStation NAS devices, I have several and each has issues to some degree.  But I've actually done something better than a full restore, I purchased a new NAS from another manufacturer.

I cannot imagine a scenario where I buy another Buffalo product, nor will I ever recommend it.
