LinkStation Duo (Model: LS-WX4.0TL/R1)

OS: Mac OS Sierra 10.12.3

I am unable to access my LS Duo and noted that it is in Emergency Mode (according to NAS Navigator - LS-WXL-EMA9C).  I downloaded the appropriate update (ls_series-171_fwmac).  When I attempted to install the update the updater attempted to open and quit without any error message or dialog.  Wondering if anyone else has had difficulty with this combination.  I have attempted to notify Buffalo tech and verify the update but could only relay a message through sales support.  Any ideas on how to troubleshoot this problem?  Is there a way to confirm the current firmware on my LinkStation Duo>. NAS Navigator 2 does not offer any option other than "refresh."

Have you tried on more than 1 MAC?

- Tried on another Mac (OS X 10.8.5) and the firmware updater opens and can not find the LinkStation on the network so I cannot go any further.  Since the firmware updater opened it seems like the installer is not compatible with my version of MacOS. 
- Uninstalled NASNavigator 2 from that laptop and attempted reinstall using original disk.  Unsuccessful because LinkStation was not found on network.
- Returned to original laptop and ran NAS Navigator 2 and no LinkStation was found.
- Checked for LinkStation using IP Scanner and the device was not located.

Appears that I need to
1. Find a way to get LS recognized on the network
2. Download a FW update with an installer compatible with the current Mac OS version
3. Run the update and regain access to my LinkStation.


This has gone from bad to worse.  Anyone have any ideas?

Powered off all equipment, reestablished network, and now LinkStation is found on an IP scan.  Attempted to setup Linkstation access on the second Mac (older version of Mac OS) and I got a message that said "Fail to setup."  Shows network information (IP, Subnet Mask, and name) and the following comment, "Currently using static IP addres."  Any ideas why setup would have failed?
