Title: Using WZR-1166DHP-EU in the US
Post by: hexacore on February 02, 2017, 03:24:59 PM
I recently moved from the EU to the US and brought my Buffalo WZR-1166DHP-EU router. I know that there are WiFi rules which are different in US and EU. Unfortunately this router doesn't have a region or country setting.

Does anybody know if i can setup the router to correctly use it in the US? Or is there maybe another firmware?

It should work fine. The only issue might be the PSU, EU uses 220 volts while US uses 110 so check the specs of the PSU

The only thing you need to keep in mind, other than the AC adapter, is that only channels 1-11 are allowed for use on 2.4 GHz networks in the US. Most countries allow 1-14. Any US devices won't be able to use channels 12-14.

I don't believe so but I'm not certain.

I stand corrected. Check this page for a full rundown.

Ok, so I found out, that my router actually only uses channels which are allowed in the US. Thats good so far. But I got another problem:

I turned on 5GHz but I could not find the network on any wifi device. Then I changed the channels settings in the router from "Auto all" to one fixed channel nr 48 and then all devices found the network.

Any idea why this is happening? I guess using only that one channel wont work too stable?
