Title: HTTPS web access to LinkStation Live HS-DH1000GL
Post by: lan_baba on June 19, 2009, 07:42:35 PM

Hi there, I have a little tricy problem, so plz be patient. 8-)

I'm using Verizon DSL, and router is Netgear WNR3500.

The WNR3500 setup:
DNS address: get automatically from ISP
Port forwarding: 9000, 443, 80
NAT filtering: Secured
LAN setup: Use Router as DHCP server, and uses "address reservation" so each device on my network has a static address.
Dynamic DNS: set up to use www.dyndns.org

The Linkstation Live Setup:
Network/IP Address Properties: Automatic DHCP
Web Access/Service Setup: HTTPS/SSL is on, not using BaffaloNAS.com, DNS is my dyndsn.org's hostname, Auto-Confugure Firewall (UPnP) is disabled, and external port is 9000.

Ok, here is what I get and what the problem is:
I can access the linkstation via https, port 9000 from outside. it will say the invalid security certificate, ask me if I want to continue. Hit yes and will pop a windows for user/pass, and everything just works fine.
But when I'm in the office, the port 9000 is blocked since it is not a standard security port, which should be 443. So, I changed the external port from 9000 to 443, then I can not connect at all, and if using 9000 in the address, it still works same as before the port change.

SO, my question is, how can I web access the linkstation via port 443 instead of 9000?

THX.

You're on the right track but the external port should remain at 9000 and on your router you should forward port 9000 to the IP address of the LinkStation. This is the solution that I've got to work for many of my customers :)

Ok, I've set the the Netgear router to forward both port 9000 and 443, and set the linkstation to use external port 9000. Still not working, now what I get is IE will ask if I want to connect to the site in my trusted site list, then still give me the error "xxxxx xxx xx can not display the page".

Any more suggestions?

It will work as long as the correct ports are forwarded, configurations are correct and you are connecting qith the correct user name and password.

To check the ports go to canyouseeme.org and type in 9000.  If it is not open call netgear to forward the ports.

For the configurations you can send me a PM with your current configurations and I can go over them for you.

You can also just PM me with your buffalo nas name and I can check it for you.

Tried canyouseeme.org and several other sites, it seems that 443 is blocked by verizon. Or my netgear router has some port forwarding problem?

You need to forward wan port 443 to lan port 9000 in order for it to work properly.  You will also need to set external port to 443 in the web access settings.
