Title: HD-WL6TU3R1-EB Dead Drive 1 - Rebuild 1% then beep
Post by: vttech on January 15, 2017, 04:59:02 PM
Hi everyone,

My WL6TU3R1 Duo drive of a few years started getting slow a few months ago and the fan was louder. So I did a firmware update to v1.00 which was successful but problems continued.

About 2 weeks ago started beeping and drive 1 light went red. I purchased a WD Red 3TB (WD30EFRX) to replace the dead 3TB Seagate drive that was in there (ST3000DM001).
Popped it in, red light started blinking consistently and drive 2 green was blinking as well but drive was not accessible. Status in the raid monitor utility said rebuilding. It went on for 10 days.
Then I saw that firmware 1.1 was released 5 days ago which addresses some of these issues. So I took out the new drive (drive 1), upgraded fw and then put in the new drive again. It started rebuilding, got to 1% then beep and red light for drive 1. I tried a few times, same results.

I then did a diskpart and clean for the new drive on my PC and put it back in but same result.

Any suggestions?

Technically you should be using the same type of disks in a hardware RAID, not saying this is the exact problem but it would be a starting point.

Looks like there's a problem with the enclosure. I tested both original drives that were in there and no problems.
It's 6 years old so I guess it's gone bad.
